Nucleation, growth and coalescence phenomena of air bubbles on quartz particles in different aqueous solutions

چکیده
Understanding the generation and behaviour of air bubbles in the presence of different reagents is important in the solid/liquid separation processes used to treat mineral and water and wastewater by flocculation–flotation. The presence of large air bubbles in aerated flocs, which have higher up-rising rates, can lead to the development of higher capacity units. The present work evaluated the generation and behaviour of air bubbles on hydrophilic particles of quartz in water and other aqueous solutions (10 mg L 920SH non-ionic polymer, 30 mg L DF250 surfactant and 50 mg L Flotigan EDA amine). The operating parameters were the air bubble growth time, contact angle, adhesion, attachment and detachment. The main results showed that the air bubbles grew more readily in the presence of non-ionic polymers and after adhesion in non-ionic polymer and water. The formation of large bubbles in aerated flocs in an effort to develop industrial flocculation–flotation operations with higher throughputs units is discussed.

Effect of frother type and operational parameters on nano bubble flotation of quartz coarse particles
In this work, the effects of the types of frother (MIBC, pine oil, and A65) and operational parameters (impeller speed and air flow rate) on the flotation of quartz coarse particles was investigated using nano bubbles (NBs). Quartz particles of the size of -425+106 mm and three types of frother were used for the flotation experiments. Also the impeller speed was 600 to 1300 rpm, and the air flo...
متن کاملCFD Hydrodynamics Analysis of Syngas Flow in Slurry Bubble Column
In this paper, a CFD model of syngas flow in slurry bubble column was developed. The model is based on an Eulerian-Eulerian approach and includes three phases: slurry of solid particles suspended in paraffin oil and syngas bubbles. Numerical calculations carried out for catalyst particles, bubble coalescence and breakup included bubble-fluid drag force and interfacial area effects. Also, the ef...
متن کاملNucleation of solid solutions crystallizing from aqueous solutions.
The study of nucleation and growth mechanisms of salts from aqueous solutions, as a function of supersaturation, is described using both macroscopic and microscopic experiments. In situ observations in a fluid cell in an atomic force microscope (AFM) reveal phenomena not accounted for in standard crystal-growth theories, specifically on the role of the crystal structure of the substrate in cont...
متن کاملSuggestion of New Correlations for Drop/Interface Coalescence Phenomena in the Absence and Presence of Single Surfactant
After designing and constructing a coalescence cell, drop/interface coalescence phenomenon was studied in the absence and presence of single surfactant. Two surface active agents of sodium dodecyl sulfate and 1-decanol were used. Distilled water was used as dispersed phase. Toluene, n-heptane and aqueous 60% (v/v) of glycerol were selected as continuous phases, separately. It was found that ...
متن کاملCompetitive particle growth at different conditions of oligo-micelle formation in hydro-alcoholic solution of anionic double-chain emulsifier via batch emulsion polymerization of vinyl chloride
The condition of oligo-micelle formation of sodium di-isodecyl sulfosuccinate (SDIDS) emulsifier in hydroalcoholic solutions is used to study particle formation of vinyl chloride emulsion polymerization in a batch reactor. The change on micellization behavior was investigated by critical micelle concentration (CMC) and zeta potential parameters. To detect the occurrence of secondary nucleation ...
